Not sure, but also watching it live, not quite understandable why so many people do that. We stopped a few times for those races (had to, all traffic was stopped), TDF, Giro while on vacation many moons ago, and each time the wait was very long, then you'd get the caravan of police, motorcycles, cars and vans driving along at a pretty good clip and finally a huge group of racers just zipping by you. Could not even make out who's who. And then it's all over. But man, are people passionate!
Not sure if it's as intense today with the ongoing drug scandals, but they must be making money, otherwise the race would not be in the media so much each year.
