Feature request - Null Node...

It would be really helpful to have a null node for the network view just like Nuke with the "Dot" node. It would enable me to make my node structure far more neater and easier to layout.

Do you have the least version (Version 2.2 build 2.2.22.1) if you do it has a null node [Called a Null Shader]): should help you? you will find it a numer of places for example under the Displace Shader it is between the MOLA Map Shader and the Power Fractal Shader!
Regards to you.

I am aware of the existing Null Shader, but I was looking for something that is much smaller visually like the Dot node in Nuke.

I think ideally the Null Shader would be drawn differently in the network view, more like the Dot in Nuke, and have a keyboard shortcut to insert one. The reason I added the Null Shader is to serve a very similar purpose to Nuke's Dot.
