Just a quick test render of the new Pine trees available at NWDA http://www.nwdanet.com

These are certainly the most detailed pine models I've used and I haven't even gotten really close up yet.  In this image I used the 35m, 30m, 25m, 8m, and 5m trees as well as three populations of dry grass.  The image took just over 8 hours to render at 2400 x 1200, Detail 1, AA 6, GI 2/4.  I ray traced everything since there is no ground visible really.

The image is a little big to post here so you can view it here (just click the image for the full size):  http://www.archer-designs.com/zp/index.php?album=digital-art/terragen-2&image=nwda-forest-large.jpg

*Update One*

Here is a second render from above that shows a lot of detail in the needles:  http://archer-designs.com/zp/index.php?album=digital-art/terragen-2&image=nwda-forest-from-above.jpg

Awesome render Ryan. Very atmospheric as usual and nice showcase of the majority of the models.
Hopefully I will lose my TG2 block tomorrow or the day after so I can give these a go as well :)

Cheers,
Martin

Thanks very much, I should have another image ready to post later this afternoon.  Same scene but different POV (from the tops of the trees looking down).

This shows off the new trees very well. I am always impressed by your work.

Ever so natural with these models; and, the lighting you have created. What render filter did you use?

Nice scene setup Ryan.  Thanks for sharing this as I can get a better view of some of the Fir's image maps (needles) close up. Sorry to say I'm not impressed by the small firs in the foreground as they seem very low quality to me. Or was it your render settings? The needles seem smudged or something. I'll ask Frank if He can post a close up of the needles in the other thread. Thanks again for sharing this.

Thanks very much.

Bob, I used Mitchell-Netravali as the filter.

Jay,  I have a render I was about to post that shows the needles closer.  I'm not entirely sure what is going on with the lower trees, but I think it is likely me and my settings that screwed them up.  I think it would be a combination of the fact that they are in deep shadow and using less GI than maybe required for the dark shadow areas.  On top of that I did a bit of tonemapping in photomatix that causes smudges and loss of detail sometimes as well.

Woah I love this.  :)
Mind if I use that render on the product page?

Cheers,
Frank
