Good day everyone,
here is my first ever TG2 render! (Yeah! Finally!  ;D )  which I will call "Viriato Mountain" in honour of the great warrior from the Iberian-Peninsula who fought the Roman invasion in 140 B.C. .
Viriato was a mountain warrior (a highlander) and is very well known around these parts, a real hero to many, but it´s sad that
no one ever named a mountain after him.
Anyway,
After about one week of reading your fine tutorials and going through you many cool tips and tricks here in this forum, I finally decided to create a scene for myself.
.
Now I am still a very green tomato when it comes to this TG2 stuff, so I needed some expert help.
I found it in Mr.John (schmeerlap) cool tutorial "A Get Started Terragen 2 Tutorial for the Terrified"
(which you can see here... http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=7733.0 )
It was a real eye-opener for me as to how this TG-2 gadget works and what is needed to make a great scene. As you will notice, his mountain tutorial is called Ben McDuff and is set somewhere in the highlands of greener Scotland or Ireland, but I wanted something different, more of a mountain scene that looks like the ones we have around here in Spain or Portugal. So mine looks rockier and sun-backed which is exactly the effect I wanted and was able to create after playing and testing around with the TG-2 slide buttons and effects.
One particular effect which did not came out at first to my liking was the heavy Cirrus clouds, of which one came out looking like it had a hole in it, but after looking at it for awhile, I decided to leave it. To my eyes it kind of adds a point of interest as some clouds in real life also create some strange and wonderful designs in them. So this render was left as it is after about 4 and half hours playing around with the buttons and following Mr.John´s great tutorial.
Thanks very much good buddy , for sharing your wisdom and valued knowledge with us guys just starting out.

You have done a really nice job with John's tutorial. I like the fact that you modified the scene to reflect someplace you are familiar with.

Thanks mate, I am quite proud how it came out in the end after so many hours of fiddling around with
these TG2 buttons and sliders. A real puzzle to figure out sometimes, but I will learn soon enough with
your expert help and advice. Many Thanks.

Now my next step is to learn how to create exactly the cloud shapes I want to see... without having to
depend on the ones already available inside the program. Some of those clouds have "holes" in them. LMAO  ;D

I added you as a contact on Flickr. The airplane images I looked at were quite awesome. I'm sure you'll be teaching us things soon! :)

can't believe that's your first render  ;D
nice job, good colors.

it's just my opinion but : I HATE framing... gold borders...even more !!
Not your, but every framing stuffs.
Again it's just my personnal opinion but every time i saw this kind of effect, i think  : why guys want to trash this  render.
Think about it...if your disagree it's ok too  8)

Anyway welcome in terragen world and happy render  ;D

ps : framing stuffs  are comming from hell don't help them to rule the world.

Wow Fantastic for your first Final Render, gosh mine were 10 times worse than that. Though I never used any tutorials, like the idiot i am. lol

Fantastic work.

Yes, it's a very good start, Max. Try adding some more power fractals (stack them, no displacement, only one color) into the grassy surface and the rocky surface. You'll get more subtle color variation that way. You can even control height and slope by sticking a distribution shader into the blend by input of the Power Fractal.
And you can fill in whatever number you like in the 'sliders' (even -10 for black or 1234991 for white), you don't need to just slide them left and right. Great for experimenting.

Very nice first render!
I can tell you my first one was at least 10x worse than yours!

This great and useful advice Max.
