Non- tonemapped preview ?

Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a way to have the preview (and the Render View) show the non-tonemapped version of the scene.

As it is, the preview and final 8bpp renders are tone-mapped (and very well, too :)), unless you save out your render in .exr format. But if you intend to use .exr you 're most probably in for a surprise, because you use the preview/test renders to tweak the details (in atmosphere, lighting, etc) to perfection only to see them come out really different in the final .exr frame. I know you can tone-map in post of course, but it would be nice to have the option to preview the "raw" output.

So if there is no way as it is now, could it be implemented in a future update ? It could be a user-definable toggle.

Thanks,
nick

Hi Nick,

I believe on the "Effects" tab of the render node if you uncheck the "Soft clip effect" and contrast checkboxes you will get a result without tonemapping.

Ryan, thanks a lot !

I think that's it. I shouldn't have missed it either, seeing as "softclip" is the term often used for tonemapping procedures in many CG apps.

Thanks again :)

Thanks, I always wondered what that was for.
