I was bored and feeling a little destructive, so I blew up a star.
Inb4 "those shockwaves don't happen! fffff".

They just issued a tornado warning and said to stay away from windows. Does that mean I can't use my computer?

I like it. I am not sure about the background at the start. I think it steals the focus for the star. The rest is really quite well done.

I attempted to make a supernova in Blender a while ago. I didn't quite get a realistic result :D (it's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgCPfV4Znq8) probably because I didn't get the shockwave to work. Yours looks pretty nice, though I think your sun at the beginning could use a little more detail besides white. :)
Heard of computer graphics? CG? Terragen 2, the landscape generating program, also known as TG, a whole cool way to create realistic CG - with TG.

Can't do that. The explosion, shock wave, and gas shell are three separate models, each with a halo material. Since I have no idea how to make a star that just disappears and is replaced by an explosion, the sun's just all three models scaled down into a single point. I did try texturing the halo, however my attempt failed miserably.

nice...
although I have to say I've never liked the 'tilted' shock wave...shock waves are spherical and you'd only see the outer edges...

I think I'm positive you can texture halos (it's nothing easy though.) I might've used a volume material for the beginning sun, but yes, it's totally up to you.
