My first attempt at a 360° panorama with six 1280x1280px renders.

Doesn't look too pretty as this was just a test on a simple scene to try out the method. I'll make some more, I've a few other ideas.
My inspiration was seeing SwissAda's recent and beautiful forest pano' the other day and I thought, "This is something I've never even tried yet!"

Thanks to Floating.Point for some tips earlier today, too, as I was having some difficulty aligning images that had no overlapping sections(I used a 90 degree fov as I didn't use any GI). I got there in the end with a different method anyway.

Controls are the usual, mouse to free-look in any direction and shift/ctrl to zoom.

Cheers for looking! :)

* EDIT: Replaced the .mov version link in this post for the Flash one at my DeviantArt site. Some people were having trouble viewing the Quicktime file in different browsers. *

Nice work stitching this together. 8)

Forget Tuesday; It's just Monday spelled with a T

Cheers, Henry. It's really easy using pano2VR. The easiet pano creator I've come across and I've been through a ton of them this last day or two.

Dune

What's the plugin needed to view your pano, Martin?

inkydigit

looks great, tg 0.9 mac had a built in qtvr plugin which was great, I wonder if I could get this to work with tg2?

Redwolf

ahhh, just realised I didnt have quicktime on my new one

dandelO

Thanks.

It should just be the most recent QT plugin for your browser you need. It's just a .mov file.

Anyway, here's a Flash format one that I needed to convert for DeviantArt... http://dandel0.deviantart.com/art/TG2-Panorama-Test-255021388

Now, don't tell me you don't have Flash installed! :D

dandelO

Surprised that no one has pulled me up about the fake trees yet!

Did I fool anyone? Probably not. :D ::)

choronr

Love this one Martin. Fake trees? Don't tell me everything is fake.

Dune

I did notice the fake water  ;)

Very nice Martin. I have this stuff on my pc and must try it some day.

I don't have flash on the ipad, or on the iphones. I prefer the quicktime version of course.

There's no fake water, Ulco. I just stuck a plane down, popped a default water shader on it and adjusted the height/size of the plane to fit the minimum amount of area required. Just the trees have been 'faked' with displacements.

Well, Frank, the .mov looks higher Q so you're not missing anything from the flash file, it can be a bit 'jumpy' when the camera moves in the Flash one, the .mov should be smoother, it is for me anyway.

Cheers, folks! :)

Looks good DandelO!

What did you use to make the panorama?
There are so many programs out there...

The fake trees do look very sufficient to me for this distance.
In theory they should render faster and be more memory friendly!
Did you do a test ? Did it render much faster , DandelO ?

dandelO

Definitely more memory efficient, and much faster to render, I could never populate all those trees on my pc. I've done a few renders with fake trees before, it really depends on lighting, you need them at a distance and backlit for best effect from a low sun, so you can't make out the details.

Search here for 'Forestry Commission' and 'Fake Stone Forest' for more of them in better lighting.

I used Pano2VR, which makes the entire thing for you from your cubic renders.
