Hi all

Just recently starting playing around with Terragen, and found a really handy tutorial on this forum which basically guided me through the process of making a landscape... I managed to blunder along (no discredit to the tutorial, which was brilliant) and went a little further and tweaked settings etc, and dropped in the scorpion obj file (which i source from online).. So the first is basically the raw render, with a 30 second photoshop once over. Then the other one is with more post work in Photoshop, working the levels, and kind of making it a little more surreal i guess. I also assume the more I learn about this program, the closer I can get it to match the photoshopped version.

Open to any feedback, suggestions, or critiques.

cheers,

Wow, this is nice!
The atmosphere and overall mood really seems nasty and the model fits very well!

Congrats and welcome!  ;D

Really nice. If this is your first render, that is really impressive!
It has been eaten.

thanks for that - technically not my first render from terragen, but strictly my first scene (other than a few test renders along the way). I want to do a space shot for the same environment. Going to look through this forum for nice refs and tutes.

this is a great forum btw.

Very good sci-fi image with great hot/toxic atmosphere. Love the fantasy peaks and the burning glow added in post work. The mutant scorpion (perhaps post apocalyptic) is well placed in this finely composed scene. Are the distortions to the moon caused by the heat haze on the parent planet?

I hope I realise I don't exist before I apparently die.

hi schmeerlap

thanks for the positive feedback :) the distortions on the moon were added as an after thought in photoshop, not quite sure I like the way it looks just yet, but ye, the idea being the parent planets atmos distorts the moons appearance somewhat.

and thanks again for your insightful tutorial  ;D

Here is another angle of the render... Starting playing more with the camera and its settings. Again, alot of the polish is added in photoshop..

Crits and feedback always welcome  ;D

the giant scorpion looks pretty cool, i also like your displacements and atmosphere
