Inspired by Kevin's Swan Lake, I put this together (though it's not perfect yet). I'm working on some refinements in the reeds for inclusion in the NWDA shop.

Soft shadows (0.6 @ 6), render subdivision settings (@ 0.5), it took 2.5 hours on Q 0.5 and AA 8 (1/16 and threshold 0.1), one fill light and GI 1/1/8.

Wow!  Calm and peacefull all it needs are some ducks - I love those reeds.

looks good, i particularly like the detail you put into the foreground with the water plants.
WARNING! WIZARDS! DO NOT PREDICT THE BEHAVIOR OF OTTERS UNLESS YOU OBEY BIG HAPPY TOES.

Quite a nice start Ulco.  Have you done much playing around with populations of the internal rock object for close ups instead of the fake stones?  If not I would suggest it, you can do some pretty excellent things with them and avoid the sometimes strange looking pyramid stones.

great looking reeds...I like these a lot!

Very good work, Dune. Very even quality from corner to corner. And I agree the foreground is great, I like the sky too.

*Also, do you have cattails plants in the region of the world you live in? They look very similar to the reeds your making. Perhaps you can get two species of plant out of the work you are doing.

*edit again) What is the aspect ratio you are using? I like it a lot.
It has been eaten.

Dune

You're right Ryan. I have done some stones, but actually always forget about them. Good idea.
@TheBadger: as it happens I was just starting some cattails yesterday. Thanks for adding the photo's, always handy. Aspect ratio? You mean the image? 1600x800 says it all  ;)

Dune

Reeds and cattails, another testrender. The rock pop didn't quite work out (yet) and I was a bit impatient, so I stuck to fake ones.

TheBadger

Looks great Dune! Did you decide if you will sell them?!
It has been eaten.

The second image is outstanding; water, cattails, atmosphere. This is very inspirational.

Dune

I'll put them on the NWDA site soon, after I made sure they are 100% okay.

Jonathan

Great Work Ulco - love the whole scene - might be an idea to have some lichen on the stones maybe?
Every problem is an opportunity, but there are so many opportunities it is a problem!

Dune

Here's another version (with only slightly changed populations), rendered with 64-bit TG. Detail 0.8, AA 16 (1/16 threshold 0.1) GI 1/1 + fill light, soft shadows, render-subdiv 0.5. Took 2 hours nonetheless. Just for comparison of quality.

very, very nice Ulco, is the chickweed(muur?) procedural?
:)
