Abandoned projects .... something to think or laugh about ...  ;D

1. Was supposed to be a reversed planet you are looking on Norway (The planet does not cast shadows on clouds)
2. Forest variation
3. Some Rock in the sea (I have loads of permutations)
4. Arty Farty
5. Well it started to look like aehmm... :(
6. I dunno, I was looking into blue nodes
7. See 1
8. Tried a flat planet (realised that plants only seem to be populated from z downwards and not on normals)
9. Zbrush on a cloud test
10. Nearly fractal like but rendering time became prohibitive ...

Image #1 is really interesting to me. Can you share how to replicate it. Also how fast did that shot render?
It has been eaten.

Basically you need two planets as the cloud layer is bound to the planet.

Maybe if you go -radius for cloud height, I can't remember if I did that.

I attach the tgd and the files. The original earthmap is from Nasa JPL. I attached that too as I blurred them and made contrast changes

One is entered as tif which I can't upload here.

The original idea was to make the earth with a cloud map as some clouds but as semi transparent has issues, I abandoned it.

The rendering speed was normal.

Oh and I attached another cloud layer to the shell planet.

Thanks for the file  nbk2 :)

Not sure if i understand what you want to make but did you saw this nbk2 ?

Hi thanks. I just play around until I have a grasp of the software.

The aim was to make a reversed world. The earth is the clouds and the clouds is the earth. I just hit two problems.
One the other planet does not cast shadows on the clouds. One would probably need to introduce another planet to make a fake shadow.
and the other would be semi transparency. While you can kinda do that with a water shader it only works in one way really good. Polygon outwards. My main problem isn't the cloud, that's easy. I wanted a kinda faded look on the shell bit like a cloud map.

And the link is cool!

That'/s what I hoped when I posted the outakes that someone posts interesting hints one doesn't find with the search function as one doesn't know what to search for.

Thanks :D

I think you found it , but there is a TGD file nbk2 :)

Yeah when I have time, I think doing another cloud layer to make the soil (the planet that looks like a crust now) bit might be the way to go.

I was aware i could pass colours somehow through, but hadn't looked into it. Thanks again!

I am a bit confused. One of the threads posted stated that getting a direct texture wasn't possible. PF puts colour through, I knew that. But you don't need that.

After successful tries with RGB (unnecessary), i found it's actually quite simple. The biggest problem is fighting albedo.

Maybe a software update changed this since the thread is a year old.

Here are all image mapped planet sized clouds. One being one of my 360 picture, Nasa earth maps, Neptune etc..

These clouds are white, I did not change the colour setting in the cloud node!

Only texturedcloud.jpg is 4 clouds 3 rgb clouds and a bog standard one.

Everything else is a single cloud layer.

One of the 360's is found here

Hi,
like these experiments, specially the last ones.
Although I'm a bit confused, too.Where are the colors coming from now?
I simply don't get your explanations.

The colours come from 360 degree image maps.

Below is  one I rendered in Terragen for an Octane Render.

You simply make a spherical image map centred at the planets centre and positioned centred.

Then you attach the image map to density and or final density and put either that also on altitude or depth modulator.

Or you put the usual PF voronois where ever it pleases you as long you have one image map feeding in.

I attached the TGD for below quick render
