A deserted place far away.  Sorry about the large size but some images just seem to demand it.

Nice image Mhaze  :)

The bottle and chest shader could be a little different.
Reminds me on the lost coast map of Half life 2   :)

Great image! Agree about the bottle and chest. They need to be more weather-worn.

mhaze

true they are a little bright

Dune

Very nice, mhaze. I agree with the bottle and chest, just add some dirt/mud. You could even blend the dirt by a distribution shader to only get some mud on the lower parts of both.

mhaze

updated version still not happy with bottle but too busy at the moment to spend more time on it.

TheBadger

Really great incorporation of the architectural features. The steps and building blend in very nicely! They look like they were made of the same stone from the terrain. Great job!

Being that structure blending has been the subject of other resent threads, would you mind sharing any problems you ran into? Did you have to do anything special, or was it pretty basic and straight forward? What was your process?
It has been eaten.

mhaze

Very straight forward. I found a similar colored texture adjusted it in Photoshop, scaled and displaced it in Terragen - took 5 mins!  The key is finding an appropriate texture image and scaling it to fit in Terragen. Actually looking at it again it needs some reflection!

It looks really nice  :)

Have you tried doing auto levels in PS? I just tried it and in my humble opinions it starts to really pop ;D

mhaze

I've just tried and I don't like it - too contrasty and the colours are all wrong! Auto levels can be useful but they are based on giving bright sunny day pics and that is not what I'm after I want a more somber mood. But thanks for offering the tip.

I agree, the steps are very well integrated into the scene. Very nice!

mhaze

Nice tip, I'll try that.

EDIT:

Post removed for taking liberties with another user's submission.
Sorry, mhaze.

Hi mhaze,

Looking good!, I do like this, and the update really helped integrate the foreground objects.

Couple of things I'd suggest,
The clouds in the top of frame are lovely, but feel too noisy lower at the horizon, and reduces the sense of depth.
There are a lot of great rock shapes, but the uniformity of colour, and lack of break up breakup in specularity/reflection makes them blend together too much.
I'd also look at maybe adding a little more detail and definition to the foreground sand to make it feel a little more grainy.

Hope that all doesn't sound a bit too picky, it's already a nice piece of work.

I agree with about the clouds.  Some of the sand detail has been lost, I'll put it back if I can stand the thought of a 12 hour render!  The rock has plenty of colour but yes reflection does blend it .

I don't want to get into a long philosophical debate but I'm fed up with high contrast over saturated images. I blame magazine editors!  I suspect some people even see in over saturated high contrast.  This is a low key image depicting an old tired and deserted place and colour and lighting have been chosen accordingly.
