Hi all,

I'm testing Power Fractal Shader V3 and after few pictures, I can't guess how Adjust Coastline works ? Can someone give me advice (Simple node network to test, for example...)

Thanks a lot for your answers :-)

Hi,

This is described in the documentation for the node. Click the "?" button in the top right of the node parameter view to go to the docs.

I use it for flattening areas between the higher altitudes. This works great for making plains or isolating mesa formations, for example.

Thank you :-)

I had already read the description in the official documentation, but I think this parameter doesn't work properly in my test scene. Maybe because of a heightfield utilisation... I'll try with full procedural terrain

This is a screen capture of my node network and PF shader's parameters. My heightfield has an altitude of 100 m. Nothing's wrong in  that node network ?

It's working correctly. The difficult part is getting the coastline smoothing to look right. You can control this better with a Distribution shader, image map shader, another power fractal...

Keep working on it. This is one of the more difficult parts of the power fractal to learn. It takes patience to get it to look the way you intended. Don't forget about the merge shader. The merge shader can help alot; it offers a lot of control options.

Thank you very much for your advice... I will continue my tests with this incomprehensible parameter ;-) As you say : it is not so easy to learn !

You can also do this:

It is not incomprehensible. It takes a little use to get how it works. I wish I could say, 'Do this...' but it depends too much on the look you are trying to get. Much of Terragen 2 is like this. The more you use it, the more you have a feel for how to get things to look right.

Thank you Dune, but I try to understand how Adjust Coastline works ;-)

Njeneb : I'm not trying to get a special look, just trying to understand...
-> "The more you use it..." : That's right, I use every Power Fractal's parameter again and again. I create animated GIFs with my tests for a better view of all of this parameters !

That is a good way to see what happens. I did the same thing with the Heightfield erosion operator.
