Ok, well suppose should say, I've been playing too many computer games lately and thought that it was becoming a bit anti-social so I've gone back to RPG, and joined a group. I always enjoyed DM so thought I would put some of my graphic skills to good use. Things that would enhance the game.
The present DM had a map of the isle, part of an archipelago. So I thought I would try and use TG2 to make some enhanced maps/visual aids. And this is the progress. I intend to make some for my future adventures.

So only been at it for a week so please feel free to throw a dog a bone, and give helpful advice.

Many thanks

You made all of these? I think there quite nice. A few are rather great, IMO.

Yes I did them, it's just progressions from left to right improving. The models are all free from over the Web, didn't make them ! :-). I can do modelling to but want to get a grip on TG2

Mahnmut

There really is some good progression from left to right!
So are you going to show your adventurers "thats where you are heading right now?"
That would add a nice touch to the game. Especially as it´s not something they could have found in the readybought manual.

Yeah that's the idea, try and give them some extra food for their imaginations. You can spend ages trying to set a scene where as an image can get " AHHHh" :). And finding creating getting me more inspired too.

Been doing some more with experiments with displacement for river and road way. with using image map. Needs something more to give it a more realistic look.

I like the way these are shaping up... which way are you going to go next?

Did some renders based on this weeks. Its the ruins we are  approaching, tried some God light.  Going to try a town in the next image I try.

Those are some very rich blacks! I love it. Of course the trade off is half your scene is basically invisible. Try to think of some clever reason to add lights in the dark areas... If anything were possible I would say add a long procession of monks with torches. But since thats likely not very practical, something else may be effective.

Did you save out an HDR? And if so did you tone map? If not that might be the fastest easiest way to gain better dynamics. If you did, you may simply need to process differently. And you could always process different areas of the image differently too.

But if your completely happy with it now, than simply ignore me ;)

dunno how to save out as hdr, but thanks for the suggestion of the black areas :)

yossam

You can save your image as an .exr, which is hdr. You will have to have a graphics manipulation software that processes the .exr. (Photoshop) and others.

londonsmee

Thanks for that one will give it a go :)

I like the 1st and 3rd of the new set quite a lot, very dramatic lighting. The first with its long shadows is well enough lit. The 3rd, I actually like the darkness with just the top of the structure highlighted. It's not too dark too my eye, just perhaps a bit imbalanced in composition - you could cut off the bottom 3rd or so and it would be great.
