Messing around with some fake stones.  Nothing particularly artistic here, more just a technical exercise for future use.

Mahnmut

Very promising.
Interestingly, there seems to be a linear pattern in the stones (more obviously in the previews).
Actually, I could use some advice on Fakestones.
But after my holiday, to which I start tomorrow in the morning. Maybe I´ll ask you in October.
Best Regards,

I also noticed the stripes in the distance. Deliberate or shader artifact?

I would like to see your settings for the rocks................can't ever get mine to look like that.  :-[

RArcher

The lines are a product of one of the image map shaders colouring the rocks.  I just didn't bother blending it out in the background as I should have done. Here is a higher quality version of the one with the water.  Once I'm happy with the results, I'll add the file here.

It has been eaten.

Just a couple more tests.  One from about 200mm and the other from 500mm.

RArcher

Here is the file.  You will need to add your own textures as I've coloured the stones so they can be easily identified in the network.  I've made everything as simple as possible, but if there are any questions about what is going on, please ask.

Very good Ryan, I've always been fascinated with stones, rocks and boulders. especially those covered with lichens and moss. No two alike in nature.

Particularly interesting is translucent quartz. Some can be found here in the mountains that surround Phoenix.

Thanks a lot Ryan. A lot to learn in your file.

Wow - these are really nice!

Mr_Lamppost

Thanks for sharing.

That's a much simpler way of combining layers of stones than I've been using then I don't often use a lot of stones.  I might start now though.
