I always preferred the Macross Saga.  Besides this, weren't they working on a live action movie for Robotech?  Although, that would be a pretty epic movie considering the Macross Saga alone spans 4 years.  Although they'd probably mess it up like they did the LOTR.

The live action film is anyone's guess at this point. I have no serious thought on it. Also, transferring a cartoon to a live action film does not work to well. Transformers.  ::)
