To multi object or to single object, that is the question.  As far as posing programs go, (Daz), is it better to have one single object with separate uv's for textures, or to have multiple objects that you can kind of follow or link to a main object (weapons, clothing, etc)?

I don't use daz for anything other than getting base models with some good starting details. But I have never seen an animation based on a daz rig that looked good. IF you have a link please share one, I would like to see it.

Now in general terms, Rigging applies to quite a few things, and to your question, Telling a helmet to move with a head (where the helmet is a separate object from the head) is a basic part of rigging. So yes, in my example, the helmet and the head/figure would be 2 or more objects. Rig the head, and tell the helmet to stick to the head, But do not combine the two objects into one.

Sign up for a fee DEMO at DT and watch this tut. It will show you a ton of concepts in a few min, and though not for your soft, is fundamental for rigging, only your UI and buttons will differ. The concepts are the same:

Hope this helps.
