Changed sky, rock some veg colours, added pf to tree trunks, modified fall, rock displacements and water. 23 hour render at .8 detail 8 aa.  Trees Xfrog and DRaul, grasses Walli and Mr Lampost. brambles me after tutorial from zaxxon. Every time I look at it I see small things I want to change but, hey, you've gotta draw the line somewhere.

Looks great. Very interesting water

A stretched pf warped with the same warp as the river. Making the water transparent added an extra 20 hrs to the render!

Nice render.
Just curious how much difference is with transparency on and off in this kind of image.
I would say not much. Is it worth the long render time? What do you think?

It definitely changes the quality of the water for the better BUT you can get away with it with careful colouring.  You loose the transparency in the stiller, flatter areas which can be a big loss. I will in future mask out the areas that don't need transparency - use two different types of water as it were.

I see . Thanks.
Just a thought that i haven't tried (especially for short render times)
if we could use a careful selected+edited image projected(camera or as a texture)
on the river-water and get kinda similar nice look or not.
Maybe you have already, but i don't use water much, you or others could try if that works or not?

Dune

Did you put the water on a plane, with the river curved down from ground? If not, and it's ground level, transparency won't do much. I use the ground colors to color the 'water', with an added color adjust (darken) and reflective shader.

Dune, water is on a separate plane.

Nice improvements, especially the addition of the dead conifers.
Why a new thread, though? You don't like us to compare? ;)

Wow, what a complex render! Congrats for pulling that off. I thought I was looking at a reference photo at first. Maybe just the water then gave it away. Not sure what, possibly a bit of lack of reflection and maybe volume. But this should not distract from the final accomplishment.
