Tangled-Universe

The title says it all.

I'm using Chrome and this happens from time to time without apparent cause.
It also disappears without apparent reason.

Anyone a clue???

Kadri

It happens to me too but only on old threads. I don't know why. With Firefox.

Oshyan

There is an issue we've seen where this occurs on older threads, which I believe happened after an import from SMF 1.0 quite a while ago. T-U, are you seeing it on *any* thread (when it happens), or if you think about it, is it maybe happening only when you visit older threads?

Well I don't know yet, because I didn't think of old vs new threads, but rather in the line of "did I update anything" "what am I running next to it" etc. etc.

Next time it happens I will check the data of the threads.

TheBadger

It is only older threads. All browsers I have used.

What bothers me is that the browser can download to HD without permission (as apposed to just the browser) It is not just this forum. But there are lots of irritating tricks used by questionable advertisers that take advantage of the same issue.
It is particularly bad on safari, where just by clicking links the browser will download to HD... This is easily corrected with firefox, but there is no fix I know of for safari, though there are some "add-ons" that help. But some of those can cause problems using the web at all.

With some variations of firefox it is impossible to download from the web to a hard drive without expressed permission. I am not sure that is the case with most browsers? But it is definitely not the case with Safari.

My question is, is it even possible to view the images in the forum without downloading them, for those of us that download them when simply clicking on them? I mean, is it only possible to view them by downloading them to HD? Sometimes on the rest of the net I get different results by using different browsers.

Also, internal links only work with java script and cookies turned on, which is really irritating, since the only reason we should need java script is if we want to log-in. Not that I distrust this forum of ours or anything, but these same issues are the basis for common addware and spyware on the rest of the net. For the record though, as much as I have been able to tell, this forum does not have any trackers (other than google) attached to it. By comparison, I can have 40mb of crap in my browser just by visiting 1 or 2 popular websites.

Sorry to expand on the topic a bit, but it all seems to me that it is connected... I mean the way things work on line and how browsers are built seem to be irritating by design.
It has been eaten.

I noticed that too (firefox). Good to know it's probably only old threads. A lot of annoying stuff going on anyway. I used to be able to keep my password in firefox so I can immediately enter the forum. Now I have to login everytime, while all settings are as they should be.

The image download issue only affects older threads. It's due to import from an older version of our forum system. We don't know of a fix, have looked into it, but it does not seem to be a common thing, or easily resolved (from what we can see).

Javascript needs to be on for image viewing because of the dynamic thumbnail expansion, most likely. If you trust this site but are concerned about having Javascript on due to its use on other sites, you should be able to block it but whitelist this site only. If your browser doesn't let you do that, an extension/add-on may allow it, or try a different browser.

Login issues are almost certainly machine-specific (i.e. localized). I'm not seeing any such issue across several machines (including a laptop) here. Likely it's a security setting you have enabled/changed, or accidentally added the site to, e.g. cookie blocking (yes, cookies need to be enabled to save session login info). To verify this you could try a different browser, though it could also be caused by some overall system security software (some system protection applications do block cookies for example). You may need to whitelist this website in your security software, cookie blocker, etc.

Oshyan, this does not affect older forum threads only. I just tried to view an image from 18th June and it began to download... ::) I'll check on another computer as well.

It's good that Tangled-Universe brought that up, because I've been experiencing this issue lately as well. But at first I just thought that it might be the fault of users who post their work as downloadable image instead of, say, expandable thumbnail.

Do you remember which one?

I get this and it's not just older threads. I was looking through the image share threads recently and this actually makes you simply pack in looking at images.

Oshyan

If you can link to specific examples of newer threads showing this, we might be able to resolve it, at least for those newer ones.

I experienced this issue in these threads for instance;

Very recent ones. Hope they still "work". :D

Interesting. All 3 opened without problem here with Firefox,Opera and Explorer.

Then it has to mean that it's Chrome's problem - which I'm using as we speak. Or perhaps some provider-specific limitations?

Works for me in Chrome (pops up in a separate window though).
