Does anyone know why this happens if import an obj into mudbox? I made it in LW, took in through Poseray where I increased the size 100x for easier sculpting in Mud. Points are all welded, it has a UVmap, all tris and squares, so probably all triangulated in PR, and I was hoping to add and change some detail in Mud.

Do you have a Lightwave version that exports FBX  Ulco? Mudbox can import FBX as i see from a search.

Then there is this page.Just in case:
"NoteMudbox does not support file, attribute, or directory paths that use double-byte characters in the names (such as found in Japanese, Korean, Chinese languages). Text strings should be restricted to single byte characters only (Latin alphabet). Using text strings that contain double-byte (extended ASCII) characters may result in an error or data loss. "

Here:

Many more pages there of course that might help.

Michael uses Mudbox i think?

Might as well be a Poseray issue.Had problems with scaling models there a while ago iirc.

I had this before with other models, but not always, so I might try another time, or export from LW directly. I have no FBX support yet in LW, but I will. Thanks guys.

Dune

Yeah, got it. Direct export from LW works.

Glad you got it Ulco.

I have seen similar problem before. In my case, it was that I had way too high settings on my brushes, and I was using those brushes on an uneven surface (not exactly perfect quads). So when I applied a brush the surface exploded. IN appearance, it looked pretty much exactly like your example image.

But I don't recall ever importing an object and getting the explosion right off the bat.
Anyway, I guess you know how to avoid your specific issue from now on?
...
I remember this bird. You made that a wile ago, no? re doing it now? or just making some changes?

The OP image looks like the beginning of the formation of the "TEserack" from the film "interstellar".  ;D

Ulco,

I just got the same thing in Maya. It happened when I smoothed the model.
I am guessing that it has something to do with normals. But they look fine here.

This is the first time it has happened to me in maya. I am using the newest version. I can't figure it out.
Ill post on it in the autodesk forum this weekend if I don't find the answer.

I figured it had something to do with Poseray, as a direct export from LW worked. But you have to increase size by 100 or even 1000 to get the right sized brushes to work on it. Later decrease again for TG.
