Running tg2 (2.5.5.0)
If I open a new project and have in the system paste buffer the string 'http://www.google.co.uk', go to shaders, and click on Base Colours
Click on the Name field and paste in that URL, it appears to work but in the node network you'll see that the connection between the base colour shader and the planet object is deleted(!). If you don't notice that and save the tgd file you get complaints on reopening. If you do notice and attempt an undo the name change isn't undone nor is the deleted link reinstated.

You probably shouldn't be pasting such things into the shader name but I caught the control key when I was trying to type the letter 'v'! (the paste doesn't have to contain google I got the problem with various urls)

Node names in Terragen aren't yet thoroughly filtered for "bad" characters, i.e. characters that break naming. This is something we should improve in the future, although any future fixes would not be backported to TG2.
