I have start a new landscape, here is the first result.

I want to had some foot tracks on the left dune, maybe some camels in the distance. Do you have any idea how to do that?

I will try also some different light condition.

Cool.  I like the texture of the sand.

Here is what I started dinking around with a while ago with footsteps - http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=355.0

May I suggest the sand needs to be a tad browner?
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

"Cool.  I like the texture of the sand. "

Thank you, it is made with sine displacement depending on altitude + some noise, and with a mask depending on slope direction.

For colour, I have no opinion, I am colour blind... I will try something else.

I had a look to your previous post, I came to the same conclusion as you, I need one displacement map per foot print, but I didn't have the idea to use a crater for that; I must do some test to see if I can get it smooth enough.

Very good, I like the landscape.

I think you can save some nodes in "Get Normal normalized projection":

Thank you for the tip, I will have to look deeper in the built in function  8)

I posted a new version: a first attempt with foot prints, I agree this one needs many rework. I post it anyway, because I will be away for 4 weeks...

Even with this poor result, it is really painfull, I imagine that I sould replace all the functions by a simple displacement shader linked to an image. Do yo have tried this?

I also tried to change the sand color, what is your opinion?

I had planned a foot print trail using an mage map and transform shaders... well two image maps (left and right foot). Seems to be a relatively simple approach without requiring too many images. The main shortcomings with this are footprints on steep terrain. To help deal with this I was considering an additional functional mask for the footprint image based on the slope... shallow slopes get full length foot print, steeper slopes shorten footprint progressively towards just the front part of the foot (going up hill).

I was thinking also about image map for foot print, but I first have to get familiar with resize, position and shaders first.

Here is my last version, I added some noise, and my wife selected the colors for me.

I will try to continue next week.

Much better color and great footprints!

The footprints are great!   :)  There was some talk here a while back about building a library of displacment images from various animal footprints. (It was a turtle drag mark that started it, as I recall.) Never happened, but it was a neat idea.

I was playing with something similar to this not too long ago - http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=2208.0. Similar concepts with the dunes and ripples, I'm thinking. I'd introduced more variation in the ripple direction; that was probably the biggest difference.
