My very first TG2 image... any suggestions how to improve it? Especially the atmosphere doesn't really look like I wanted it.
The sand waves are based on David Burnett's "function only land" tutorial.

Pretty good job on the sun.  Facing the sun presents certain challenges; not necessarily bad ones, just challenges to lighting.  Here some things you can do -

1.  You could cut your camera's exposure (learned this one from FrankB)
2.  You can cut your Haze Density to 1.5 or 2 (experiment with differnt levels)
3.  You can cut your Render's Gamma down
4.  You can increase your Render's contrast
5.  You can increase your Atmosphere's Quality level to 32 or 64 (I recommend at least 32)
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

It looks like in this case (although it's hard to tell because of the haze glow), that your render would benefit from "raytraced shadow in atmosphere" being enabled, to prevent the light shining through the distant hills.

cheers,
Frank

took me quite some time, but I finally got back to working with Terragen...
here's the result of applying your advice, I think it did quite a lot for the picture:

ah a darker version...very nice....I like the rays...

try applying the blowing sand effect by applying a low level cloud layer....
"His blood-terragen level is 99.99%...he is definitely drunk on Terragen!"

Very nice...and DH's suggestion sounds nice.

Very nice for a first image!

My inferiority complex just got that much bigger...
You know what's worse than not being able to do anything right or make anything good? Not being able to blame it on anyone but yourself.

rcallicotte

The more we practice...   ;D

well, it's the first "real" one - there were of course some experiments before this, and when I look at some of the other images in this forum, my inferiority complex grows really fast...
