Snow Leopard Mountains_WIP

Found this terrain, height_vue_eroded4096.ter, in my Terrains dir. Smoothed it and went to work with pops. 3 Dune grasses, 2 Walli Wildflowers and the Free Fir Tree(adult) that comes with TG.
Not sure where to go if anywhere with this so soliciting C&C...thinking about a small diagonal stream cutting across from upper right ground to lower left corner.

Adding a small river would be nice to see. Some stones here and there. I would add some tiny displacement to the ground as well, loosen it giving it the appearance of dirt. The ground cover itself looks very good. It suggests a nice semi-arid forest. The mountains could use some erosion, good fluvial channels. This looks to be a pleasant place to want to visit.

Yeah, It's the oddest thing cuz I have a FS network in there in the spaces twixt the grasses but it disappeared and by the time it became obvious the render was damn near done so I let it run...that stuff is on the list.

Actually the .ter that this is, before I smoothed it, was very fluvial....I just wanted fantasy softness this time

I probably had similar events happen in some cases. After so many renders, more then could be counted. So it seems inevitable.

Certainly, nothing wrong with that.

You have the first tree set at forced displacement.... a bit too much, I think.

Yup, amongst other things...should have bumped the trunks on the pop as well. Forgot to do colour vary on the grasses as well though the wildflowers help vary it...gonna attempt a stream insert today.

Ant idea why this is happeneing, wasn't in the earlier one and the trees are the same...all the distant trees are cropped 2/3 the way up, even in the reflection in the water. This is just a test of camera and stuff so lower res....

I had this problem in my forest and with the telephone poles in my "Silent Hill" too.

Just moving the population some little steps in any direction and repopulating helped. (sometimes you need some tries)

Definitely try that idea. I like where the river lays as it is a good location.

Was your population rendering correctly at first though? Se my first post's image. At first it was the mid distance trees that were truncated so I tried higher AA and they came back and I thought I'd solved it. Tried upping the displacment tolerance of the planet as well which had also been suggested previously for a similar situation.

Sorry Bobby, but I could find no regularity behind the appearance of that phenomenon.

In the case of my "Silent Hill" the telephone poles were first rendered ok. I don't remember, when it exactly started.

I recognized that it happens only with a few models (so far): I think when I used some high trees or similar high objects like my telephone poles in populations.

In my cases no change of any setting worked but moving the population a bit and repopulate.
What I recognized in these cases is that in the 3D preview one exemplar of EVERY population is shown at the terrains center (0.0.0). Sometimes this mess is rendered, sometimes it's not rendered... very strange. and I don't know if it's something to do with the cut objects.

Well with none of the "high foreheads" chiming in on this I'm going to bin this project for now...maybe in the future I'll return to it.
