Lately I've taken to creating  plants in Blender (instead of xFrog)  but have pretty much stayed away from trees until now.  Blender does have built-in function for creating trees, it's just not very clear or simple.  And while xFrog is more robust,  Blender is open source and anything created with it can be shared in any manner the creator pleases.  Still on a steep learning curve here - attached images are from the first Blender tree I've come up with that approaches "passable".

Do you work with the sapling addon? Or do you use 'The Grove' (www.thegrove3d.com)?

masonspappy

Using the sapling add-on.   Trying to stay totally within what Blender is capable of doing 'out-of-the-box'.   (assuming Blender ever actually came in a box  :D

Not bad. I would like to see where you go from here.    8)

Hey for a freely sharable model this is quite good! Encouraging. How hard is it to create something like that (once you get past the UI)?

masonspappy

So here are 3 trees created in Blender.  Each has it's shortcomings and I think that as I better understand the UI I'll be able to make better trees.  Still largely experimental (for me).
If anyone would like to play with the TGO's I'll post in file sharing section after they've been cleaned up a bit.
@otakar: It's not really hard to create, just a bit tedious and time consuming.  Also helps to drink whiskey when playing with the UI.    ;D

That's what I've been doing wrong...............no liquor. Any particular brand? I got a bottle of George Dickel Barrel Select, 86 proof that needs an excuse to be opened.  :P

Very good trees..........the only thing I ever got from Blender was a headache.  ;)

130 proof Booker's Bourbon might do it for me but it may take another ten or so years.

Bacardi's rum, sugar and vitamin B-12.   Sugar for energy, B-12 for stamina, and Bacardi's to give me ideas what to do with all that energy and stamina   ;)

On second thought, i'll just have some Juice.

It'd have to be bong hits for me as I'm violently allergic to alcohol in any internal usage...saves me a bit of cash at the bar although it seems to be stiffling my TG work, hee hee hee....nice tests...do post em....

I'd have thought Klingon Blood Wine would be more appropriate for you  ;D

That irregular shape tree looks nice (as does its trunk). Nothing worse that those perfectly symmetrical shape trees (in populations)!

That's the one I like the most as well. Hee hee on the Klingon Blood Wine...my only w(hy)ine lately is it's too bloody cold to cycle.

That is not necessarily a bad thing. Lucky, i don't drink myself.

Ok, I've posted dropbox links to 3 trees and requests for feedback in the File Sharing section.
Would really appreciate feedback / observations / suggestions for improvement.
Thanks!
