I was just woundering if anyone had the Matterhorn terrain, dem or any other format of it which a can use in Terragen 2.
I think it's a awesome mountain: http://ski-zermatt.com/mattnet/pics/batch/8/The%20Matterhorn%20in%20summer.jpg

Didn't know where to post this, but since I'm going to use it in Terragen 2..... why not here.

I have a terrain set centred on the Swiss Alps. It's only SRTM3, but it's a start.  Haven't set up a download page for them yet, but I'll post them here:
http://www.path.unimelb.edu.au/~bernardk/terragen/terrains/swiss_alps/files/

The number in the filename is the width of the terrain in metres.

[edit] I haven't standardised the altitudes yet, so they may have different sea levels (+/- 0.5 x terrain spacing). I'll post the finished versions later[/edit]

Thank you bigben, but what is SRTM3?

I can't say whether or not these are any better or worse than the data Ben has but this is a fairly good source for some data:

I'm sorry. I do not understand this fully. Is it bad, or is it good?

It's adequate for large-scale scenes, but that resolution is less than a 10th of what is commonly available in the US.

Looks like 30m  :) Thanks for the link.

This is much better than 90m and will give you a reasonable terrain. I'll download it and add it to my terrain set when I can.

The world is round... so you have to use spherical projection.

The Matterhorn is one of the most beautiful mountains in the world

give it a try...

They only have 1" SRTM for the US. Global data is only 3"
Access to CGIAR for this data is quicker/more reliable from here (The Google Earth overlay is handy too ;))

Oki.... What do all those those links mean? Like n45e010 for instance.

They are one degree tiles based on the bottom left corner of the tile if I recall correctly.  So for your example that tile would cover North 45 to 46 Degrees and East 10 to 11 Degrees.  You will need to find the lat and long of the matterhorn and then find the correct tile that covers it.

Alright. Thank you RArcher.
