Finished the terrains for my alps set. The highest res Matterhorn terrain hasn't changed but the others may have. I had to remove 3 of the higher res data tiles as they caused an inconsistency in the sea level which created problems for the wider terrains. Elevations have been approximattely normalised (all sea levels are now at 0m). Adjusting the maximum altitudes was relatively difficult as the highest peak varied between terrains making a direct comparison difficult. One terrain also has a data glitch from the conversion process which I have seen before in my Grampians project (the bottom left pixel is at 9,000+ metres) but this will disappear when the terrains are masked.
The widest terrain now covers pretty much most of Europe. It's only a 2049x2049 TER, but I don't think it really matters with the intended camera altitude for it's use. I may try and make it a little wider yet to include all of the UK, Spain/Portugal and Sicily/Greece although I'm pushing the limits of my RAM with raw SRTM data (37 tiles loaded for this terrain). I'll have to run some tests later to determine which resolutions are actually required to minimise RAM usage as much as possible
Landsat images for these terrains are coming, but it will be a while as there are a lot of tiles to download and it's a slow process.
This is now my widest terrain set as can be seen from these two views of the Matterhorn. The orbital view has Greece in the lower left and the Pyrenees in the upper right. The close up view shows the value of having the extra padding to show extra mountains along the horizon.
The list of files now includes a slope map for the Matterhorn. I use this to help selecting lakes. I also posted a bonus lake mask which has a quick selection of lakes derived from this image. It's the same size but a lot easier on the downloading (6000x6000 TIFF, only 191kb)... and also the TGD used for the images below. Landsat reference images are on the way but they're a slow download so it's going to take some time.
[edit] 2 landsat images covering the Matterhorn are now posted. They are both the same resolution, so if you take the larger one you won't need the small one. [/edit]
For a high, pointy peak and it can pretty tricky finding it if you're not familiar with the area

... rendering the right one now
