A nightshot with the Prometheus model I used here:

There are more than 160 additional lightsources in the scene. That's why I'm desperately asking for a grouping function in TG!!!

I purchased the cargo stuff in the foreground at CGTrader. Not too pricey. I payed $ 20.81. A bit low poly, but the textures are very nice. Unfortunately they weren't assigned to the OBJs. So there was a bit guesswork, which took half a day, but in the end I was happy.

Hi Hannes

This looks indeed like a lot of work. Meticulously precise placing of those lights.
I like the wet spots an the ground floor, provides a little bit of depth in the dark setting.
Also the luminous panels are nice (though perhaps the big one in the center is a tad too strong compared to the other smaller ones, maybe).
Cool scene overall!

A few ideas that come to my mind looking at this:

- more lights!  ;D  -  no seriously.
The "street lampposts" (the one`s with the 90 degree angle) could be a longer line of lanterns along the rooftops.

- what if you light the inside of the helmets of the two main characters in the foreground like it is done in almost every scifi movie
(I wonder how they see anything blinded by the light - but that`s another story). That would make them more visible and add depth.

- a little bit of haze (like that behind the bigger car on the left) rising behind the Prometheus.
This could accentuate the silhouette in a nice way.

Cheers, Klaus

Thanks for your feedback, Klaus! Of course I could add some more "lampposts", but I like the areas that are not evenly lit, which brings in a bit more variation.
You're absolutely right about the lightsources inside the helmets. Totally unuseful, but looks indeed cool. Doing some tests at the moment (I removed the visor of the helmet, stuck a face inside and added a lightsource). Unfortunately the left guy looks at the ship, and the right one has his head turned a bit to the right, so you won't see much of his (lit) face.

Actually there is a cloud layer in the scene to get some haze, but I turned it off, because it takes awfully long to render, probably because of the numerous lightsources.

I'll do some tests with a less glowing display in the foreground. I like it, because it's semi transparent, which looks cool to me, but you know, we all tend to exaggerate, ;) when there is something cool... ;)

Hannes

Here we go. I just rotated the right guy a bit, reduced the luminosity of the screen and added some more cargo stuff in the background.

It's just great! Only the jpg skybanding distracts  :P Will you be animating this?

Thanks, Ulco! Yes, the banding is really annoying.
Funny, that you ask about animation. I just did a test importing the animated camera from my other Prometheus animation. I had to adjust some things and atm I'm rendering a little test animation with it. But I don't think, there will be a hi res animation. Besides the soldiers aren't animated, and I'm a little tired of this scene. I like it, but I feel the urge to do something else...

Dune

I know the feeling; sometimes projects are taking too long and other ideas evolve....

A tour de force, you must be a patient person! :)
