Hi gang

I'm in the middle of a massive (much longer that I had thought) render so I cant test this out my self but I have two questions about Object Populations. Firstly is there any way of knowing how many objects are in a populations other than catching the number on the counter as it flashes past? Its not vital to know in most cases but it would be interesting.
Secondly, when using an image as a distribution shader is there an "object spacing" setting that will give one object to one black pixel on the image, there by allowing fairly accurate placement of objects within a population?

Hey, guy -

No idea about the first, but as for the second... I think you can get results that approach this using an image map as you describe and playing with the coverage and .. fractal breakup bias? Is that what the second numerical input field on the 'Coverage' tab is?

<edit>
Setting the bias to values above 1 (I'e been playing with everything from 2 to 15) seems to force sharper adherence to the breakup factor and the blending input of the breakup node feeding the distribution node. At least that's what it seems I observe. I could be completely misinterpreting the effect of the controls, though.
