For stars, I find it much more effective to simply map a texture on a skydome, that fixes everything, and gives much more freedom.



Yes but if you need 3D motion-animation it gets harder.
Haven't tried stars on a Plane-card object with opacity. Could work better too.


You also can't populate them inside a cloud in random volumetric positions.
