Hey everyone, as some of you might know, I'm making an exciting steampunk themed animated short film called Cyan Eyed. Well, with the film's release to be some time this year, I am now starting to step up social media posts, showing off various cool and interesting things about the film. I will post any Terragen specific updates in this thread, but if you wanted to check out some more work from the film, I would be grateful if as many of you could like/share/follow/retweet/react to as many of these as possible.

The first image was posted a couple of weeks ago, and shows off one of the main environments, as most of the film takes place on a flying skyship. Many shots in the film I am rendering full frames image sequences, rendering at home on two Threadripper 2's.

Thanks for reading!

Then also a couple of weeks ago, I posted this one, which is a frame from the first shot of the film, a 740 frame shot, that will be 95% Terragen.

Thanks for the kind comments Hannes, Matt, Kadri and bobbystahr!

The release of the trailer for Cyan Eyed is getting closer! Here is another teaser of one of the exclusive trailer only shots. All made in Terragen, except for the planetary rings and moon, plus a little post production on top. The aurora is all made in Terragen, and the size and position in the atmoshpere closely resemble real world aurora (not the colour though).

I thought this might be useful to people wanting to be able to comp and grade Terragen AOV's properly. The proper way to build a Terragen render out of AOV's only worked once I finally figured out how to use the alpha, atmoAlpha, cloudAlpha and surfAlpha elements the correct way. The atmo, cloud and surface elements need to be divided by their respective alpha, then they can be graded. Then after, they get multiplied back with the alpha, and finally all plussed together. I had been wanting to figure this out for years, as I was just doing it the 'quick and dirty' way by using one of the individual RGB channels from the alpha elements, instead of using all the channels chromatically.

Then at the very top are some latlong elements (stars, planetary rings and moons) mapped onto a sphere in Nuke behind the Terragen renders, all properly combined using the chromatic alpha the correct way.

When I compare the beauty render to my AOV break out I finally get a 1 to 1 perfect comparison, and now I want to share in case others want to know the same.

Thanks!

Just a few more weeks to go until the release of the trailer of Cyan Eyed, the action packed, steampunk themed animated short film. For the first time, instead of just stills, video is also being released which shows off one of the exclusive trailer only shots.

I will be talking a lot about Cyan Eyed, and mentioning the use of Terragen and a little on how I used it during this discussion. So if you want to be one of the first to see the trailer for Cyan Eyed with a lot of Terragen rendered CG eye candy, be sure to click on that link to see it and hear me talk live!
