Hi Folks,

New here - only recently came across this software and I have a question. I've been very impressed on what I've seen in your gallery. So - regarding Skydomes - I did search on this topic but I haven't really found an answer yet.

So I've seen both a Fisheye and Spherical camera described on the web site. I need to create an image of the sky similar to the image that I've attached but I need the image resolution around 10K pixels in each direction. I can manipulate the Spherical Camera output to make the Skydome needed. Is there a way to easily do this in Terragen where I can capture from the horizon up 90 degrees in the vertical and 360 degrees in the horizontal ?

Thanks...

Regards,
Scott

Yes, but you need Terragen Professional to use the Spherical Camera.  You can render Equirectangular Panoramas, and then use the Polar Coordinates filter in Photoshop to get the Skydome.  Although in my version of Photoshop (CS5) it seems Polar Coordinates only works with 8bit Images.

You could also use the Fisheye camera in Terragen to make a Skydome though.

Although I just did a quick test and noticed the planet has a hole in it when using the fisheye.  Anyone know how to fix this?

Looking 90 degrees up and rendering the sky looks mostly ok, but I do see an artifact like a hole, but still blue.  Anyone?

Does force ray trace everything fix it? 😂😂😂 That is weird though. It kinda looks like clipping like the camera is inside the planet a bit. Huh.

OK I re-tested in the latest version of Terragen (4.5.56) and the hole issue is gone.  Seems 4.4.67 has clipping issues.

So Scott, you should be able to do what you need to do with Terragen as long as you are not using the free version.

Hope that helps!

Hi Derek,

Thanks SOOO much for taking the time - greatly appreciated - sir !

After your first response - I downloaded the trial - didn't see it before.

Yep - Fisheye seems like the way to go - I was able to do a test at 900x900 with the trial version.

It looks VERY promising. I'm assuming with Pro scaling the same up to 10,000x10,000 shouldn't introduce any issues.

Looks like I may have to give this a try.

yep, no resolution limitations in pro. Just hardware xD That is, if you machine can handle the render. This doesn't seem like much a chore though.
