I made a huge mistake and deleted a folder with current work. And also emptied the recycle bin! No backup. Must have been very much asleep.
A layered tif is the most important, and I used several programs to retrieve the files, but only found corrupted files. None of my programs open the tif and the tgd also seems unworkable (uploaded, but don't be surprised it doesn't open, it won't even copy to text editor).
I tried some options for recovery of the tif, but none seem to work. If anyone has a smart idea, I'd be very much obliged!! I can upload the tif for anyone willing to have a go.

Oh no! I've come very close to doing the very same thing and have lost a few small files over the years. It's very easy to do.

Have you tried opening the tiff as a Photoshop Raw file? You need to enter the bit depth and xy dimensions. I've rescued a few photos that way.

Give me a few minutes and I'll look at the tgd file. I used to do a bit of XML programming and might be able to see where the errors are.

Bad news, I'm afraid. :P  There's no data in the file, just zeros.

I'm sure you've checked this but do you have file history enabled? [Edit - Never mind, just reread your post.]

So sorry this happened. Nothing worse than losing work.

Dune

Well, I started doing the work allover, as I thought this would be a hopeless endevour. Luckily I hadn't gotten that far.

Thanks a lot, Steve!!

Any others; no need to check it anymore, I'll manage from now on.

Hannes

I just had to try it, but you were of course right. No chance... :(

Dune

;D  I've got new files already. Up to building a AD 1770 mansion now....

Hannes

Go for it! Sometimes it gets even better when you start from scratch.

In the future, try: http://www.puransoftware.com/Puran-Utilities-Download.html

Supports deep scanning (such as after recycling bin is emptied). This software is nice because it supports hundreds of formats and isn't just geared at loosing ASCII/Photos.

Thanks Jordan. I did use Puran file recovery (which I already had installed), but this suite seems interesting too. But it was interesting (and annoying) to see how quickly a file can get corrupted. It was only a day after deleting and emptying trash can that I found I missed this folder, and started recovery. Nothing much happened to the drive or folders. Good lesson though; backup after a days work!!

Yeah, the recycling bin is kinda weird. It itself stores its data all over the HDD, not just one place, and when you delete it, programs have to recover the pieces from all those locations. Which, I believe, can also be overwritten by other temp data, and if it has, good luck getting it back without those stupidly expensive software or a harddrive specialist. Even then, the chances are slim.
