Phantom Shadows

Here is a winter scene I have been working on. The trouble I have been having is getting the shadows on the sleds to look right, especially the one on the right. I have intersect underlaying turned on to give the snow some thickness but it seems to effect the shadows of the sleds. It took a while to get the sleds to contact the snow correctly with the displaced snow layer turned on, once I got that dialed in the shadows went goofy. I remember a thread that addressed population not displaying shadows but not individually placed models. Is this something that has been addressed in the final version?

This is a WIP and I will be updating it soon.

Any input on the shadow issue would be appreciated.

I cant help you with the shadows but what I can say is that the snow looks nice and the atmosphere and the scene itself is even better....great job!

I agree with DH.  Only the sled on the right stands out as messed up...what else do you need to do?  I'm assuming these sleds are objects in TG2.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

They are both .tgo's I created them in Cinema 4D and converted them to .obj's in PoseRay. They seem to cast shadows okay
when intersect underlaying is turned off but that makes for really rough looking snow. :)

I will upload them to Ashunder later in the weekend. I also have a toboggan that I made.

Wonderful lighting, atmosphere and sense of scale. The sonw is rather nice too (although not quite "fluffy" enough? try adding a sand-like fine scale displacement or very small fake stones). I'm not sure why you are having that shadow problem but it might be something to test against the renderer changes being made right now, if you'd care to share the scene.

I will try to see if I can get the .tgd and sleds uploaded at Ashunder. The trees are X-frog Firs and the terrain is the MtRainer_4097.ter. If you don't have it I can upload it also.

The reason that the snow looks a little hard is I was trying to get an icy look, because that type of sled doesn't do well in powdery fluffy snow. I have made a toboggan that will work with powder type snow and will try it in a later render. Thanks for the comments and the help.

Here's a version without the problem sled, and less haze. (Oshyan I will get that .tgd to you tomorrow)

Let's find out what's at the bottom of the hill <jumps body down onto the sled>.   ;D

That's kind of the idea behind the pictures theme. When completely finished the title will be"Days last run" :)
