My First completed scene
« on: January 05, 2007, 11:17:30 PM »
Well this is my first scene, not very impressive, but i like it. criticism welcome, i would love to elaborate on this image.
rendering time= 57mins 8secs on 2gigs of ram and an AMD Athalon 3800+ X2 Dual-Core with a nVidia GeForce 7800GTX GPU.
do you think that the good GPU helped the rendering time? because i see similar images to mine that take twice as long.

The GPU doesn't help in rendering the final as far as I know. There's not many rendersystems that actually use the GPU for rendering (I'm not talking about games ;)) Difference in rendertimes are mostly due to quality settings and cloudlayers. There's a benchmark thread here: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=350.0 . You can compare your rendertimes there.

Looks like you're off to a good start, and yea the GPU doesn't help with rendering at all.  The only program I've found that has a GPU render option is Maya.

There's also gellato, a render for 3DSMax. It from nvidia specifically for nvidia cards though.
