Slippery Slope WIP
March 21, 2008, 09:13:38 PM
I've had this idea in the back of my head now for a couple of months and had done some playing with it, but school kind of took over. This image is a rough render to get an idea for things. I've got the final one going now, but I did increase the snow's coverage in the final run.

Looking good so far.
I like the clouds, I'm not sure how natural they look but does that matter?
Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.

Keep working at it. The lighting needs accentuation. The snow could use a little more variety, maybe in thickness...or something. Not much help, maybe.
So this is Disney World. Can we live here?

This is a good start. The snow is not thick enough, the clouds were not realistic, but there is the potential!
While at work!

Thanks for the input. I'm did some small tweaks to the snow and from what I can see so far, it looks as though things have improved slightly in terms of the depth. As for the clouds I agree that they don't look all that realisitic. I'm going to play with those once this render is done.

This is the first high quality render. I like the snow on this a little better but it still needs work and I didn't do anything to the sky, so I'll come back to those in the next few days.

The render high quality is really better, but I think that the layer of snow is too fine !

I agree with Phylloxera in that the snow doesn't have thick build up like it would naturally.

I agree, thicker snow. And I still like the clouds the way they are.

I was wondering if this snow looked better. I tried applying a clip file I found lying around. I know its low quality but I think you can see a difference.

Yes. Some better.
In my observation, I'd say it would look a lot better with at least one PFS applied as a Blend Shader to the main terrain. Rough it up a bit to add some variation in color and displacement.

I upped the thickness of the snow even more and added another powerfractal shader to the terrain to give some more definintion to it.

Starting to look much improved. Keep working on it. Sometimes I set aside a TGD for a few days or even weeks, then go back again. This helps me, when I'm bogged down. Anyway, I'd keep at this one, whether now or later.
