Haven't posted anything in a long time, working full-time at a greenhouse/grocery store has been demanding, and I've been busy with video games, Photoshop, and movies; unfortunately leaving little time for Terragen :(  Anyways, here's a new one I thought I'd post. No texturing yet, and I found the tree here (can't remember who from though) Thoughts/comments appreciated!

Looking great so far!  With the proper textures, this could become a masterpiece.  I am especially fond of your point of view.

thanks! Not sure if I want to have the sun visible or not, leaning towards not. Also, it'd be a great one to have a nice storm in the background

I agree this is very nice and I agree with O_B's assessment.  Then, make us a large version.

Update: I suck at texturing.....

Mr_Lamppost

I think the grey of the mountain needs a little variation and can we have the tree and clouds back?     ;D

Onec finished this is going to very nice, the composition is excellent.
Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.

mrwho

yeah, i took clouds and the tree off for quicker rendering, they'll be back :P  Any suggestions or good examples of texturing? It's one thing that I've never been good at

(can't remember who from though)

That'd be me. Looks great! Top of the world shot.

Oshyan

For texturing advice I highly recommend Volker's approach described here: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=2287.0

Oshyan is right on!  This is an excellent lesson and can be used for fake stones as well as any terrain texturing.  Moodflow has a good method he described, which is related to a fire-in-the-hole image he made.  I learned a lot from that as well.

ok, an update. Did some texture work, and now I'm also adjusting the lighting and clouds; I think I prefer the second one, but I'd like a mix of the two. There are two cloud layers, besides the mist on the bottom, and I have one disabled and the 'enable primary' unchecked, so I get the lighting effect from one layer, and the clouds from another.

Next up: working on the foreground. The tree will return, and I'll play with adding other vegetation to it. Thoughts and comments appreciated!

rcallicotte

I like what you're learning.  Thanks for sharing what's going on.

Hope we get to see a finer (less grainy) version.   :D
