Oh, this is sort of weird, but not in a fantastic way.  I'd make more variety and play with the lighting to make it more mysterious.  The clouds should shape up with your lighting...as far as I can see.

I started a second render this morning with some massive skyscraper like objects as a population.
hopefully it should be done by the time I get home.
I'll add more changes after that....
I'm not clear on how to get better rotation variations on the populations.

yesterday I made a second fractal design in GIMP to be used as a color map/texture, much like the luminosity mask in the piece, but it did'nt work, the luminosity/light from the mask just covered up the color and it was'nt noticeable.
