This is my first full render, I know the grass doesn't look real but I'm not sure I want it to. Constructive criticism is greatly welcomed.

It looks fine for a first image!
I like how you distributed the surface layers. Next thing you might want to try is to add a population of trees and use the grass surface as a distribution shader.

If you don't mind me saying, I think those are very "fairytailish" looking colors, which is nifty.  Despite the brightness of the colors, they don't clash, they actually compliment each other nicely.
