Image as a texture over part of the heightfield - How to?

I Get a scene in TG2 (a DEM heightfield) with a virtual camera aligned with this image.

Now I want to see the picture as a texture, but only over the terrain very close to that point of view.
I need to see the heightfield over the whole ground plane, and the terrain outside the red area painted with another surface layer.
The mask is easy to create, just with a painted shader. But I don't know where do I have to connect it and how to blend the image map shader.
