The thing was never switched off but I had to today and when I switched back on all I got was an off clicking noise from the pc beeper, one hd spinning up and no lights or activity, fans etc anywhere else

Changed out the bios battery, made some other checks, power supply, connections etc to no avail.
Oh well, looks like my upgrade plans have been forceably brought forward, its gons start to cost too much to find and replace the bits since my plan was to upgrade during the summer, couple of months time. If I just fix my current problem itt'll cost me something like £200, a guess but its at least the MoBo and I fear a power spike that may have fried other components, its all too much to replace for the sake of a few months. I'm just praying the HD's are ok, havn't made a bacckup on ages.
So it looks like I'll be buying an i7 in the near future, any users have any reccomendations about MoBo's, ram etc (almost cirtainly getting an i7 920 @2.6ghz) for best "Bang for Buck"
I'll be checking out my HD's tommorow, wish me luck ...
