Does Planetside have plans to include the 3ds object format in its object reader (alongside obj). There are lots of great models out there that are exclusively 3ds. I do know that objects can be converted in third party applications such as 3d Object Converter, and I have recently converted a 3ds model to the obj format for importation in T2. But will we always need to resort to third party conversion?

Blender has improved it's Wavefront obj exporter. It now can export nurbs curves. They have also improved the painting of objects, so UV mapping is no longer required.
Blender can read 3ds files, and does a decent job keeping the file 'pristine'. I can't think of a different term, I've been up 36 hours and need some sleep.

Forget Tuesday; It's just Monday spelled with a T

under which open source license is Blender being published?
Possibly the 3ds import code can be used in TG2?

Deep Exploration does an amazing job on a huge variety of formats - solid and polygonal.
But its a commercial app...  (has 30 day free trial though...)

Hi,

We're looking at supporting to FBX in the not too distant future, and that supports .3DS import.

Jo

Maybe someone would write a plugin when the sdk is made available?

what is FBX?  ???

If I remember correctly FBX is a kind of universal format for exchanging data between 3D apps.

In the wiki-link below I can quote "The goal of the FBX technology is to constantly and significantly improve interoperability between Autodesk products and other Digital content creation (DCC) software packages."
