The render is good. I do like the sand and the clouds. Maybe some dry brush/bushes might make it less harsh looking. Or for more stark effect, put the sun behind the tombstone. Use the long shadow reaching towards the camera.

the sand looks sweet, although the cross could use some better texturing, still nice job

Mr.Lamppost's brush pack may be just the thing. Just change the surface colors in the surface shaders. I don't know where to find bones. There are probably are many free objects which can be found.

the sand, to be honest was sheer luck
i already tried a desert scene once...and played around quite a while...its only a strechted powerfractal and very small-sized fakestones...here's the clipfile

The first one is great! I don't like the bushes and skull. Keep it simple and strong. This is art!

I only have a problem with the skull. I do like the displacement which you added to the cross.

ok...i think this is my final version...i removed the skull (as you said, it didn't really fit into the picture) but kept the bushes...just because they hide some distant sand-ripples which look a bit too stretched

Hi Dan
Very, very cool image with wonderful Sand!
But I don't like the Texture on the cross.
The shader should be smaller or have a second, smaller one for 1mm displacement or it could be darker...
ciao

I think the cross looks fine. This is a really stark image with a lot of powerful themes. Great job!
