Here is the start of my next scene.  The foreground is a dem of the Mission Peak Reserve near Freemont, CA.  The background then fades into procedural hills, and then into an alpine fractal.  There is still a bit of work to do to fix up some of the problems encountered so far.  There were a few render errors with the close plants where they were cut off between render tiles that I need to sort out.  Reducing the density of the grasses is needed as well to open up some of the dirt hills that are close up.  I need to decide whether or not to extend the tree populations back further in the distance.  More detail is needed in the foreground too.

Looks fantastic thus far. I'd say definitely extend the trees.

goldfarb

really nice!

there are some hills in the mid ground that look a bit shinny, and I'd cut the haze down by half (but that's just me)

looking forward to more!

Very nice scene, Ryan. I would extend the trees as well, but there is the danger of overcomplicating the scene. And look at the shiny hill side, perhaps change the sun angle slightly to get rid of it. The foreground grasses (the 'green fuzz' just beyond the pebbles) are objects I presume, but how far do they extend? They are taken over by procedural grass in the distance?

It looks great on my monitor. But if you are not happy yet, then the final will be phenomenal.

For such a detailed scene, I'd like the mid distance to be a little more sharply in focus. Otherwise, very impressive.

The landscape is breathtaking. Very good detail work.
In my opinion you should lower the Haze's expire-height a bit, to give the sky a stronger touch.

inkydigit

agree with the above....beautiful scene, l;ooking forward to see this evolve!

cyphyr

All looking very good, waiting expectantly to see where you take this :)

Hi

Wonderful!
The best is the foreground and the middle with the trees.

Said: More trees behinde (perhaps fake?), and no shine.
And: More clouds would also be pretty.

Brilliant - look forward to the final version

Great suggestions everyone, thanks, I will definitely incorporate most of them.

Dune, The grass objects go from the front of the pebbles down the valley and over the first set of hills, around 500m or so.  I then transitioned into just normal surfacing for the rest.

I really like this. But I think it would be even better without the defocusing - there doesn't seem to be any reason for it.

Just because milk is white doesn't mean that clouds are made of milk.

I see how this is the start of a really cool final render eventually.
I like that you have that detailed foreground add to the depth of the overall scene. I am most curious about the next iterations.

Grass is cool and very nice variations of trees.
