Don't give up on it so easily! The images you produced at the start of the thread are really good starts. Even if you use it only to visualize what you have in mind, it has been useful. Tools (software) have their own uses, but a screw driver can also be used as a chisel. (not recommended)
My first renders were really bad. Many will say they still are. I keep trying.

Edit: I just looked at your image. Try turning on double sided polygons. Faces are not showing up. There may be a 'calculate normals outside' function. That may help.

I agree with njeneb,
Don't give up! If you had fun with the model, keep at it. As someone pointed out, Blender is free.
I must warn you though, it's fun, and crazy at the same time. Making a model that blends into a TG2 environment is one of the most difficult things you'll ever do. You can spend hundreds of hours working on a model, just to have it overlooked by your peers, but that shouldn't keep you from working at it if you enjoy the challenge! It's up to you. I've been working on a couple of Walkers and neither is up to snuff, for TG2. But that doesn't stop me..
You may think this AT-PT-Walker WIP looks nice. Blending it to TG2 is a 2'nd and 3'd project in itself. ;) Just so you know, and everyone else that downloads all the free models, and pay for views.. A lot of work, went into and behind, your hours of TG2, placement..
Sorry for the rattle.. :)

this link is an improved ruby script for object export from sketchup, make sure you download the objexporter.rb and not the x exporter

Mandrake, if you made that Walker, you're a very good modeler.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Mandrake

Thanks Calico, I did his big brother first.

Still working on textures as it looks like cement here..
Oh did this last night to take a break from the walker, if you want it.

Whats this blender?

If your asking me that question. No, it's C4D.

Henry Blewer

Here is the link. It's free ware 3D modeling and rendering, plus image compositing, physics, bullet solvers, and game engine; plus. It is very powerful by any standard, but considering it's free, nothing else beats it. (except Terragen 2!)

And you can do Pro work with Blender, I used this as a reference when I built my Eagle
This was done with Blender.

I liked Lightwave better, but can't afford it now. Blender integrated with YafRay has been very good to me. I still have difficulty doing simple things with Blender, the cool stuff is buried currently. But the upcoming release should be more intuitive. Lots of Lightwavers use Blender for Fluid simulation.
