Vista Ultimate 2GB memory, Terragen v.9
Problem - constant crash on rendering either in preview image or full render image.  Driving me nuts - so many good landscapes and can't get it to perform the rendering.

I've set the render buffer to 128 instead of 64 seemed to help at first when rendering starts then halfway through the program just stops responding - no option but to force the program to close.

Anyone have any suggestions (besides getting another computer...)?
Thanks,
JR

I have pretty much the same computer set up. I'll download T 0.9 and see what happens.

Here's what I have found out. The program does work. When the atmosphere begins rendering, the Windows Task Manager reports the program is not responding. The CPU was still working on the thread, so I let it go. When the draw update occurs, the task manager reports the program is running. When the program returns to the atmosphere calculation, the window jumps, and task manager reports the program is not responding.
I would open the Windows Sidebar and open the CPU gauge. Only run Terragen 0.9. Open the task manager to the applications tab. Watch both while doing a small render. The CPU gage should show that the CPU is busy. If on a small render, it does not finish in a reasonable time. Hit the thread here again. Good luck.

I looked in the event log under the administrative tools. No errors were reported.

That's normal for TG .9 to appear to be froze or not responding. Unless you actually got a error message it's probably just calculating? Try setting the buffer size to 10 and it should show render progress a little faster. I've had renders with water in them that were being rendered 6500 X 4500 that took 8 days to complete. Just need a little (or should I say a lot) of patience.

Thanks for the replies!  I will adjust the buffer and show a bit more patience to see if  my machine will respond.
Thanks again!

Hi,

I should have read your first message a bit closely. As others have said, TG v0.9 on Windows can often show as "not responding". What this means is that it isn't responding to user input, which makes it seem as if its frozen, but actually it's just really busy doing calculations. It hasn't crashed. Unfortunately the only thing to do is let it do its thing. Eventually it will finish the part of the render its working on and update the render window again.

Regards,

Jo

Dropping the buffer back down works as well as adding a little patience.  Terragen is working fine - I just love this program!!
Thanks for the responses!!

I have converted some textures from another program I have if anyone is interested give me a shout and I'll provide a zip of them.
