I wanted to show off the quality of GeoControl 2 inside of Terragen 2.

Oshyan

There's no good reason I can think of for it to take that long. What were your quality settings?

CCC

Detail: 1
Anti-aliasing: 6
Cubic B-Spline
All Ray traced shadows on (maybe the problem come to think of it)
Soft Shadows: Diameter 5, Quality 9
Atmosphere: 32

In the immortal words of many before me, "well, there's your problem". Yes, raytraced shadows in the atmosphere and cloud quality tabs are completely unnecessary in most cases. The only time I would normally recommend enabling one of them is in the atmosphere node *only* when the sun appears to be shining through a part of the terrain when low to the horizon. Otherwise you should always leave them off as they will contribute nothing visible to the render, and eat up lots of render time.

this scene also does not benefit from soft shadows really. I would turn it off for this as well. You should get this down to 1-3 hours, depending on your machine.

Cheers,
Frank

I render test images. With experience, you start to get a feel for how much 'extra' is needed. Using the Crop Render helps also.

Indeed, i was alomst 100% certain they had something to do with atmospherics but now i know.    ;D

Yes, sense i am doing a rather side vista shot. That does make sense in this case.

Here is a more orthographic point of view to show the additional details.

Again but without vegetation and stones in order to show the detail form the imported heightfield itself.

Working on it.

I had to compress the jpg quite a bit but hopefully the general details still show some.

I looked at the full size. The detail is there. The bitmap must really look sharp.
