T.9 Textures versus T2?
October 11, 2009, 03:09:03 AM
I hope I'm not asking too many questions. I started with Terragen v.9 and built quite a library of textures. If I wanted to make cotton or glass mountains; for example, I could by applying a bitmap texture to the scene.
I have not found a way to bring textures into T2? It could be that's a use of the painted shaders, which I admit I have not figured out yet - my experimentation with those hasn't yielded anything good yet.
So is there a way to apply .bmp or .jpg textures in Terragen 2?
Thanks!

To use image textures in TG2 you need to use an Image Map Shader: Shaders > Add Layer> Color Shader > Image Map Shader.
Use the forum search to find threads about more about it.
Regards to you.

Thanks Cyber-Angel. I was using the Image Map in the wrong place... Figures, I still have a lot to learn.

make sure you select plan xy not through camera for an image map
and then repeate x and repeate y to cover the whole globe in the texture I make sure i always use an image map shader as a child layer of a surface layer so i can adjust the altitude slope etc^^
hope this helps

It sure does help, interesting effects just playing with the projection. I'll be experimenting for a while.

The way Terragen 2 handles image mapping is different than I am used to in other apps. I'll get it eventually. Then I'll be able to finish my Blender to Terragen 2 tutorial.

I am about halfway there. Like I said, the image mapping part is difficult. Blender units, which have not any real world scale, do not translate over into Terragen 2 easily. I want to be sure that what I write works, everytime.

Thanks, what I need is practice using image mapping. In order to see if something looks right, it needs to be rendered. This takes time, especially on my system.

This is one of my experiments, not perfect, but has possibilities - image mapping is fun!

Here is one I did using an Apothsys fractal image. It was just an experiment.
