Took advantage of a little bit of time off from a job. A work in progress. Terrain created in World Machine 2. Four tree populations, some colour grading in Photoshop, and a bit of vignette.

Could do with better grass and more detail, including bushes and some scrub.

Some bits and bobs
The Galileo Fallacy, 'Argumentum ad Galileus':
"They laughed at Galileo. They're laughing at me. Therefore I am the next Galileo."

Nope. Galileo was right for the simpler reason that he was right.

Wow! My first thought was that it was a photo! Well done sir!  ;D

I don't think that this image needs anything more.
If you post this in a photo website most of the questions would be  " where did you take this photo?"  ;D

Kadri.

Great work Jim.

I really like the tree variation and the natural distribution system.
Very nice composition and light balance too.

Very nice indeed! Did you use the alpha for this render? I find it a tad soft, maybe the AA filter used? The green in the sky behind the background clouds on the right is also a little strange, though not unprecedented in nature. There is also a slight flatness in the lower-left, but the image as a whole is excellent.

"Thank you for flying Air Terragen."  :D
They just issued a tornado warning and said to stay away from windows. Does that mean I can't use my computer?

Yes Oshyan, it's the latest alpha. I'm re-rendering tonight with a couple of better settings. I know what you mean about the green sky, but not much  can do about that right now to be honest.

the forest is very good ! nice lighting and colours.
very good job.
the critic about the sky has already be written :)

Lupina

I think this is an excellent picture. How long was the render-time?

Really great. I've missed your posts here, JimB!
Did you ever do anything else with the image which had some mapping cutoff issues that you mentioned here before? It was a high level pov shot, at about cloud level, over green countryside and I remember it as a jaw dropper, even when it was posted as a wip with problems. I'd like to see where you went with that, I can't find it in here but I think I saw it on your PB stream, I'll have a look...

JimB

@ Lupina: Render time, for a 2k wide render, was around 2.5 hours on a dual quad 2.66 box. For 3 cloud layers and 4 populations, not too bad I'd say.

@dandelO: Yeah, Matt pointed out where I was going wrong on the image layer for that image. I didn't go any further with it, but have a backburner project with WW2 aircraft flying around. This image was to exorcise some demons, really. All I I've worked on for the past year seem to be deserts or barren landscapes  ;)  "I wanna do some trees, dammit!"

Nice update!

The detail and contrast in the shadows is very nice.
Good render time too for 2k.
