I got a couple of errors (screenshot attached):

- Heightfield load 01: Cannot locate file
- ReadImage: Please convert image to SGI for non-standard bit depths.

The image I tried was srtm_17_09.tif. The zip file contains also the hdr and tfw files.

ftp://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/SRTM_v41/SRTM_Data_GeoTIFF/srtm_17_09.zip

Please test it.

This is not directly from USGS but data processed and corrected to fill the gaps in the original SRTM data.

The data I could get directly from seamless.usgs.gov, from their interactive map, is not in geotiff format.

We've been referring to original GeoTIFFs from the USGS, which many people have been able to use. You have to select alternate download formats on their site to access them (http://seamless.usgs.gov/).

If you used the same software to produce the ones causing an error as the original one in this thread, it's not surprising that it's still causing the error. Evidently it's producing GeoTIFFs that aren't compatible with our file reader. It's hard to say what the problem might be, but the error message may be instructive. Are you able to control the bit depth or channels from your GeoTIFF editing/saving application? If so you might try different variations to see if there is any change. You also might try the free demo of Global Mapper (www.globalmapper.com) as a test.

Oo, I'll try to get other tif files, but please try those at the link I posted. I can not use globalmapper since I use only mac and linux and they have only a windows executable.

Thanks and regards.
