problems understanding the functions

I'm teaming up with Hetzen to figure out how to get decent waves/surf/breakers. I've put a lot of time into this (mostly trial and error), and I believe he's good at maths. We'll see what this leads to and if we're willing to share our secrets...  By the way, I'll post my latest breaker scene, which just rolled out later today.
